September 26, 2019 – Gov. Rodito T. Albano III called the participation and support of all Isabeleños to the “One Million Trees in One Day” program of the Provincial Government of Isabela.

The call for “One Million Trees in One Day” is in line with the Sierra Madre Day, celebrated every 26th of September of every year aimed at instilling awareness to the general public on the importance of preserving our forests.

In a meeting held on September 26, 2019  at Balai, Capitol Compound,  attended by department heads of the Provincial Government of Isabela,  heads of government agencies including representatives from the military  and  some educational institutions and  non-government organizations, Gov. Albano called for the rehabilitation and regreening of the Northern Sierra Madre, all open and denuded lands and other suitable areas, both urban and rural including rehabilitation of coastal and marine areas.

Gov. Albano encouraged the participation of some 2,500 BRO scholars, the Sangguniang Kabataan, the LGUs, the public and private sector, through cooperative tree planting agreements to ensure that the target of number of trees to be planted will reach the one million mark in one day.

Responding to the Governor’s call, pledges were made by the Holy Trinity Agro-Forestry Multi-Purpose Cooperative to donate 10,000 narra seedlings and the Isabela State University thru its President, Dr. Ricmar Aquino, for another 10,000 seedlings.  The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) also committed to donate 5,000 rubber trees to be planted at the Magat Dam reforestation area in Ramon, Isabela.

DENR, DPWH, DepEd, Philippine Army, BFP, the cooperative sector and other participating agencies all pledged to donate seedlings and signed the Pledge of Commitment to signify their all-out support to the program.

Meanwhile, the PGI is encouraging all entities, groups, corporations, agencies, or organizations to donate seedlings either by direct or online registration using the standard PGI Donation Registration Form. Registration forms are available at the Provincial Governor’s Office, Provincial Capitol or can be downloaded online through the PGI’s website at www.provinceofisabela.ph. Completed registration forms should be delivered directly or through online to the Provincial Information Office and/or Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO). The donated seedlings will be submitted to the Environment and Natural Resources at the Provincial Capitol for proper accounting, safekeeping and recognition of donors.

Earlier, Gov. Albano issued Executive Order No. 15-2019, creating the “One million Trees One day” Task Force who shall spearhead the execution of the said activity. Executive Order No. 16-2019 was likewise issued enjoining all citizens using the Ilagan-Divilacan Road to plant or donate tree seedlings to support the reforestation efforts along the Sierra Madre area.

The “One Million Trees in One Day” province wide tree planting activity is set on December this year.
